Privacy Policy
What happens to your information if you apply to the MRVN OS tester pool. Written to be read, not survived.
Who is responsible
Robin Poropat is the data controller for this site and the tester pool. MRVN OS is an independent project run by one person in the United Kingdom.
For anything about your information — seeing it, correcting it, deleting it — email privacy@mrvnos.com.
What is collected
Only what you type into the tester application form:
- Name — so you can be addressed properly.
- Email address — the only way to contact you about testing.
- Occupation — to understand the range of people who want to test.
- Devices you would use — to plan which platforms to support first.
- Where you heard about MRVN OS — to know which channels actually reach people.
- Your confirmations — that you are 18 or over, and willing to give feedback if selected.
Each application is stored with the time it was submitted and the version of this notice you were shown, so it stays clear what you were told at the time.
No date of birth. No payment details. No special category data. Nothing is bought from data brokers, and no profile is built about you from other sources.
Why it is used
Only to run the tester programme:
- administering your application
- administering the tester pool
- inviting you to alpha or beta testing
- sending testing instructions if you are selected
- telling you about material changes that affect taking part
Nothing else. No newsletter. No promotional campaign when MRVN OS is released. No general marketing, discount offers or announcements about unrelated products. If any of that is ever offered it will be a separate choice you make deliberately, not something bundled into this application.
Lawful basis
Legitimate interests, under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR. The interest is straightforward: building and running a tester pool for a product in development, for people who asked to be considered for it.
A written assessment weighs that against your interests. In short: the processing is limited to what you volunteered, used only for the purpose you gave it for, easy to withdraw from, and never used to market to you. Ask and you will be sent a summary of it.
Protecting the form from abuse
The application form has to be protected from automated submissions, or the tester pool fills with junk and real applicants are crowded out.
When a request reaches the form, the network address it arrives from is used in passing to calculate a short-lived key. That calculation uses a secret value that changes every day, so the same address produces a different key tomorrow. The address itself is never stored. The key is used only to count recent submissions, is never connected to any application, and is discarded within about two days — sooner for the shorter counters.
That key is pseudonymous, not anonymous. It is a derived value rather than a random one, so treating it as personal information is the honest position even though it cannot practically be traced back to you.
Who else is involved
Two infrastructure providers process data on Robin's behalf, under their own terms:
- OpenAI — hosts this website through ChatGPT Sites.
- Cloudflare — provides the database that stores applications, the network the site is served over, and the forwarding of email sent to the addresses published here.
Neither is permitted to use your information for their own purposes. Nothing is sold, rented or shared for advertising. Information would only go further if the law required it.
Where information is held
Both providers are US-headquartered and operate globally, so your information may be processed outside the United Kingdom. Each publishes the safeguards it relies on for international transfers, and MRVN OS relies on those. If you want the current position for either provider before applying, ask and you will be told what is known.
How long it is kept
Applications are reviewed at least every six months while the programme is active, and anything no longer needed is deleted then.
If the programme is formally closed — or abandoned, meaning twelve months pass with no meaningful tester activity — the remaining applications are deleted within six months of that point.
Short-term operational backups exist so data is not lost to a mistake. They are kept briefly, deleted on a short cycle, and never used to reinstate something you asked to have removed.
If you are selected as a tester, that stage may be governed by a separate agreement with its own terms.
Your rights
You can ask to:
- see the information held about you, and get a copy
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your application
- restrict what is done with it while a question is resolved
- object to it being used at all
Email privacy@mrvnos.com. There is no form to fill in and no reason you need to give. Requests are answered within one month, and there is no charge.
If you object, or simply say you want out, your application is deleted. You are not kept on a list of people who objected.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, please raise it directly first — it is usually quicker to fix that way. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk.
Age
The tester pool is open to people aged 18 and over, and you confirm that when you apply. Applications from anyone under 18 are not accepted, and any that are identified are deleted.
Automated decisions
No decision with a legal or similarly significant effect is made about you automatically. Choosing testers is a judgement made by a person.
Cookies and storage
This site sets no cookies. There is no analytics, no tracking pixel and no advertising technology, and nothing is stored on your device beyond what your browser caches to display the page. Fonts and images are served from this site rather than a third party, so visiting does not tell anyone else you were here.
Changes
If this policy changes materially the version marker at the top changes with it, and every application stays linked to the version in force when it was submitted. If a change affects people already in the tester pool, they are told directly.
